Winter Snow at Big Bear

With a snow storm passing through the San Bernardino Mountains on December 28, 2020 we as well as a lot of other people decided to check it out at Big Bear City, California over New Years weekend. However unlike most others we avoided the snow play areas and found other places which had few people allowing us to enjoy the snowy scenery in relative seclusion.

We went for a walk along the Alpine Pedal Path which runs for 2.5 miles along the north shore of Big Bear Lake. There was enough snow to cover the ground here but still allowing the contrasting small undergrowth to be seen.

The cleared areas of the Snow Summit ski slopes can be seen in the mountains.

The path is paved but was covered in snow much of the way.

There were also views of parts of Big Bear Lake.

If you decide to take this walk in the winter be sure to keep your eyes open for any snow creatures that might be lurking about.

We did this walk in late afternoon when the sun was low in the sky.

The houses on the hill have a nice view of the lake.

The sun shining through the clouds is reflected on the lake.

The Snow Summit ski slopes are lit for night skiing. This was between the day and night skiing when the slopes are devoid of people to allow the slopes to be replenished with man made snow and then the ski runs undergo snow grooming.

Other days we went for walks on the streets near Boulder Bay. Our first view of the bay found the water to be covered by a thin layer of ice in places.

There was a good covering of snow surrounding the water.

The snowman was patiently watching the hole in the ice for anything that might emerge from the water.

There are a lot of empty boat docks at the Pleasure Point Marina near Boulder Bay.

This time of year most boats are in storage as these are.

As we were returning to the place we were staying we went quietly by to avoid disturbing this meditating Buddha.
