Rose Parade 2010 part 2

This post continues our view of the 2010 Rose Parade from our vantage point along Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, California. If you want to find out what happened before this check out the Rose Parade 2010 part 1 post.

The next float to pass our way was City of Torrance’s float titled Garden of Dreams which was awarded the Lathrop K. Leishman Trophy for most beautiful non-commercial design.

The Animation Trophy for best animation and motion went to Burbank Tournament of Roses Association’s Barnyard Aces float.

Horses have played a part in the Rose Parade from the beginning and were well represented in the 2010 Rose Parade with 23 equestrian units. These are The New Buffalo Soldiers.

West Covina Rose Float Foundation’s Tuskegee Airmen: A Cut Above got the Mayor’s Trophy for most outstanding city entry.

The Rose Parade would not seem complete without Clydesdale horses ridden here by The Shire Riders.

American Honda’s Ship of Dreams got the Tournament Special Trophy for exceptional merit in multiple categories for floats over 55 feet.

The Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles’ Mexico Bicentennial float got the Judges’ Special Trophy for most spectacular showmanship and dramatic impact.

It was followed by these flag carrying horse riders.

The City of Alhambra float.

Trader Joe’s Look Ma – No Hands float got the Crown City Innovation Trophy for best use of imagination and innovation to advance the art of float design.

Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Pet Foods Hot Doggin’ float. It was 113.4 feet which broke a Tournament of Roses Parade record for longest float.

It featured five bulldogs snowboarding down the slope one of which is seen on the flat portion of the run.

The City of Cerritos A City of Dreams got the President’s Trophy for most effective floral use and presentation.

The Long Beach Mounted Police.

Cal Poly Universities’ Jungle Cuts got the Bob Hope Humor Trophy for most comical and amusing float. Originally the parade featured flower-decorated horse carriages which were built and decorated by volunteers from sponsoring communities. Currently most floats are built by professional float building companies and take nearly a year to construct. The Cal Poly Universities Rose Float is one which still relies solely on student volunteers. Students are involved in the complete float creation process: from concept, to design, to building, to decorating.

The City of Los Angeles float.

The La Canada Flintridge float.

The Boy Scouts of America celebrated their 100th Anniversary in 2010.

The Boy Scouts of America’s Celebrating the Adventure, Continuing the Journey float got the National Trophy for best depiction of life in the U.S.A., past, present or future.

More of the Boy Scouts float.

Since I did not get a picture of the other 2010 Rose Bowl football team float this, courtesy of Wikimedia Commons, is a picture of the University of Oregon Rose Bowl Game float. In parade lineup order it came between part 1 and part 2 of these posts. Though they lost the game I was rooting for them since I once lived in Oregon.

Thus we come to the end of the parade and the end of the two part post. You can check out the Rose Parade 2010 part 1 post or see the more information and map for Rose Parade 2010.
