Visits to the Bogart Regional Park part 1

Located in the San Gorgonio Pass near the town of Cherry Valley, California is the Bogart Regional Park. It has a quite a few outdoor activities for all ages to enjoy. While I was most interested in the hiking there are places to camp, fish, have a picnic, for kids to play, or just enjoy nature. There are trails which can be used by those who bring their horses or mountain bicycles. I have visited Bogart Regional Park a number of times where I have hiked in three different areas. Each area was different and I enjoyed observing the activities other people were doing. The first two areas are covered in this blog post. The third area will be in the part 2 blog post.

The hike for the first area started near the main park entrance and went up a canyon. Parts of the trail was among large trees such as these oaks.

Sometimes there were open areas where the hills and more distant mountains can be seen. There was also a little water in Noble Creek but much of the time not much of any water can be seen. The trail crosses the creek a number of times along the way.

In this location there are horse corals for those with horses.

On one of my visits to the park I saw the moon rising above the trees in the center of the picture.

The trail continues along the creek but I decided to return by way of the park road.

This area has an Equestrian Camp Ground allowing people who stay overnight to be near their horses.

There was a horse trough near the corals.

These are two other campsites each of which include a fire ring, grill and picnic table. These campsites also have a view of the distant mountains.

This picnic area looks to be able to accommodate groups. It is located near the camp host who oversees the camping area. This also ends the hike of the first area.

The hike for the next area begins at the Meadows Parking lot in Bogart Regional Park. The trail goes along the north side of the parking lot with several paths connecting to the trail. We go right on the trail (east) and our group forms a line going toward the flag on the distant hill.

We proceed onward to what is called Scenic Hill.

The nautical flagpole was installed on June 18, 2023 to pay tribute to first responders.

On the platform we see how this hill got its name. This is the view to the south with parts of the towns of Banning and Beaumont.

Moving to the opposite side of the platform we get this view to the north of the San Bernardino Mountains behind the greenish hills in front of them.

We also have a nice view to the east of the the blueish San Jacinto Mountains.

And complete our 360 degrees of views with Cherry Valley Peak to the west.

We go back down using the Candlelight Trail where the meadows area of Bogart Regional Park can be seen.

The rock-lined Candlelight Trail snakes down the hill.

A closer look at one of the trees in bloom.

A look back at the Candlelight Trail going from its start to the top.

There is a picnic area with scattered picnic tables.  Someone brought a blow up tent for their kids to play in which is in the back of the picture.

This children’s play structure has separate areas oriented to preschool and grade school kids.

There is a lake with a fountain and stream emptying into it.

We saw a few ducks one of which is in the lake.

Some people were fishing with Scenic Hill in the background. The park occasionally has fishing derby events.

I will end this post with view of the lake and mountains. This post of Bogart Regional Park covered areas where all types and ages of people can enjoy the outdoors. Part 2 of this post will cover an area for more adventuresome people.

Pictures in this post and more can be found in the Bogart Park Visits gallery.
